The Department    

Due to continued success and growth, we are looking for an experienced ‘Mechanical Field Service Engineer’ who has extensive knowledge and exposure within the food processing industry, to join our successful operation to contribute to the quality of our service.

Working with an established team of other dynamic ‘Field Service Engineers’ within the food processing industry, Flo-Mech’s service and support skills are globally recognised. 

The Role

Mechanical Field Service Engineer

Working as part of a team and your own initiative, you will need to fulfil the needs associated with the maintenance and mechanical support within the ‘Potato Processing, Crisp and Snack Industry.

You will be directly liaising with other mechanical/ gas commissioning engineers whilst also being pro-active dealing with service requirements with the customer/ end user.  This will require a level of professionalism expected for this type of role.

Your role as a ‘Mechanical Field Service Engineer’ includes but not limited to the following.  

  • Third party equipment installation/ commissioning,
  • Mechanical overhaul and supervision of process equipment.
  • Annual maintenance of process equipment.
  • Mechanical upgrades and commissioning of process equipment.
  • Flo-Mech ‘Project Department’ support
  • Overseas travel is sometimes required at short notice.
  • Provide support to ‘Gas Field Service Engineers’ during routine servicing.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Basic Electrical experience on low voltage/ medium.
  • Mechanical qualifications with a good skill set and knowledge and understanding of process systems.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Minimum 3 years industry experience.
  • Ideally from the food or other relating process industry - preference will be given to candidates with strong food industry experience.
  • A strong engineering background.
  • Dynamic, enthusiastic, and flexible approach and willing to travel at sometimes late notice and for extended durations.
  • Excellent people skills and clear communicator with the ability to form strong customer relationships.
  • Computer literate/comfortable with working knowledge of Microsoft Office range of programs

The Package

  • Working with a dynamic team of enthusiastic engineers working under own initiative.Varied travel opportunities
  • Starting base salary circa £TBC depending on experience/qualifications. You will be expected to work at times a significant amount of overtime in line with business needs. P60 earnings will be considerably higher, OTE £65k plus. Overtime will be paid on all hours over 40. Weekday overtime will be @ x 1. Weekend overtime will be @ 1.5 and Bank Holiday overtime @ x2.
  • A car or van for both business and private use will be provided to allow you to carry out your roll. You will be liable for any private mileage at prevailing rate for car users. i.e., between home and office but all business mileage will be paid for by the company. All maintenance costs will be covered by the company.
  • Whilst there will be a significant amount of travel, the successful candidate will also be expected to attend these offices when not on site or travelling, i.e., these offices are the place of work.
  • 20 days holiday January to December plus 1 day for each year served to maximum 26, plus public holidays.
  • All business travel expenses will be covered by the company whilst carrying out your duties.
  • Private medical health scheme membership after qualifying period.
  • Company contributory pension scheme (5%)

The Role

Gas Field Service Engineer

Working as part of a team and your own initiative, you will need to fulfil the needs associated with the installation, commissioning, and servicing/ maintenance of gas/ oil burner systems. These systems are linked to large industrial heat exchanger units utilised for the heating of cooking oil for the frying process in the ‘Potato Processing, Crisp and Snack Industry.

You will be directly liaising with other installation and commissioning engineers whilst also discussing requirements with the customer/ end user. This will require a level of professionalism expected for this type of role.

Your role as a ‘Gas Field Service Engineer’ includes but not limited to the following.

  • Installation supervision of Flo-Mech designed G4 heat exchangers.
  • Commissioning of gas/ oil burner systems manufactured and supplied by: -
          1. Weishaupt single/ dual fuel systems. 100kW-12,000kW. familiarity of WFM 25, 50 & 100 control systems.
          2. Maxon 50kW-350kW. Familiarity with Honeywell control systems
          3. Eclipse
          4. Urquhart (Original Flo-Therm burner systems)
  • Bi-annual maintenance of burners/ operating systems
  • System upgrades
  • Flo-Mech ‘Project Department’ support
  • Extended overseas travel is often required at short notice.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Electrical qualifications with experience on low voltage and measuring instrumentation.
  • Mechanical qualifications with a good knowledge and understanding of process P&ID.
  • Familiarisation in PLC control systems. Siemens/ Allen Bradly.
  • Minimum 3 years industry experience.
  • Ideally from the food, pharmaceutical or other relating process industry - preference will be given to candidates with strong food industry experience.
  • Awareness of Industrial Gas Safety competency requirements, preferably Gas Safe Registered. (Either individually or registered with existing company).
  • A strong engineering background.

Systems Compliance Manager

Systems Compliance Manager

The Systems Compliance Manager role provides:

engineering design, project management and project engineering support - in the field of functional safety compliance – to assist all internal teams in the design, planning delivery of our main business output which is project delivery of food processing systems to customers.

Reporting to the managing director, typical responsibilities and duties are as follows:

engineering design

support the company’s business activities in process line and plant machinery design & development in a variety of allied fields such as electrical, control and automation, plant floor to corporate it interfacing and functional safety including but not limited to design drawings, functional design specifications (FDS), risk assessments, hazop studies, safety requirement specifications (SRS), safety designs from first principles, system architecture and software design with associated documentation, and design drawing production and support.

project management

be actively involved with aspects of engineering projects including planning and management of supporting workloads and activities to align with overall project schedules.

project engineering

carry out engineering tasks required for the execution of the company’s business activities in process line and plant machinery as detailed above in the engineering design section. this would include;

  • writing and/or support the writing of functional design specifications
  • attending risk assessment and hazop study sessions
  • writing and/or support the writing of safety requirement specifications
  • attending meetings with subcontract suppliers for electrical and software (plc/scada/hmi) design
  • factory acceptance testing of control systems and associated systems
  • partake in functional safety reviews
  • validation of functional safety designs including performance level (e.g. sistema reports) and safety integrity level (sil, using calculations from the relevant standards)
  • electrical design reviews

technical support

provide technical support to sales and projects departments in the fields of engineering defined above, including;

  • technical input on quotations at sales stage
  • budget costings etc
  • aftersales support during installation
  • i/o checking and process line/machinery start-up support
  • systems and safety validation activities
  • software and site commissioning support
  • Ongoing support post-project including final snagging and process operational support on software and systems

functional safety

CMSE qualified to support business need, including SRS along with the ability to understand and cross reference to SDS/FSDS (safety design specification/functional safety design specification) documents, whether generated by Flo-Mech or others)

provide extensive and practical knowledge on all aspects of functional safety and associated standards including;

  • EN ISO 13849
  • IEC 61508/61511
  • EN 62061

to engineer projects requiring use of these reference standards, to support and mentor the project teams and act as subject matter expert in the field of functional safety including;

  • concept design
  • execution
  • validation using software tools or the standards
  • perform validation cals at a detailed technical level as required on a case by case basis

support to, as well as the execution of, the following Machinery Compliance/Safety tasks:

  • Support *main customer MESS duty holder.
    • Support production of *main customer MESS designer risk assessments (DRA’s) – both RAMS (mechanical) and RAPS (process).
    • Support coordination with *main customer global EHS team on MESS centreline process for Flo-range/partner equipment
    • Support production of safety requirement specifications (SRS), required for all projects
    • Support and review supply partner MESS related documentation
  • Advise on and support Flo-range/client new product development.
    • Support design review
    • HAZOP coordination/support
    • Support Safety review/document production
  • General support and input on all aspects of machinery design and layout
  • Support production of machinery risk assessments (DRA’s) for *other customer
  • Support for *other customer safety related documentation

essential skills:

  • qualification in associated technology field such as electrical/electronic engineering, control systems engineering, computer science etc
  • detailed working knowledge of functional safety in machinery or process control (ISO 13849, EN 62061, IEC 61508/61511)
  • formal functional safety accreditation such as FSeng, CMSE, TÜV etc

bonus skills:

  • advanced knowledge and field experience of control and automation and electrical/electronic engineering with detailed design abilities
  • control systems engineering background in plc/scada fields with programming abilities in RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, Siemens STEP7/TIA Portal

IT Manager

IT MANAGER

role:

The systems engineer provides first line to third line IT support (hardware and software), infrastructure planning, systems design and rollout, plus ongoing systems management capability to all company departments and to all members of company staff. In addition, general system administration duties as would be expected of this role.

typical responsibilities and duties are as follows;

support & sysadmin functions

support all company staff and be the prime contact for a range of it and systems activities;

  • maintaining the pool of employees on active directory (user and group management, password unlocks etc)
  • m365 admin portal duties, such as licensing users for office, project etc, plus diagnostic functions with both exchange online and locally hosted exchange server
  • licensing users for various software subscriptions (m365, adobe acrobat pro, zoom, avast antivirus etc)
  • office telephony system maintenance (3cx) including relocating users as required
  • network file shares, permissions and data management, printer/scanner management etc
  • upgrades & maintenance of office infrastructure (managing wifi access points, switches/patch cabling, cctv etc)
  • remote support to staff out of office who may have issues
  • provision and delegation of new hardware to staff who require either upgrades or new equipment to maintain workable standards
  • stewarding staff mobile phones, company contract packages & additional requirements
  • dealing with vendor agreements with various services (antivirus, telephony, it suppliers etc)
  • maintaining and ensuring backups of IT systems
  • sourcing it equipment for users, online/in store
  • stewarding company utility bills and their respective contract renewals (gas/electricity, alarm monitoring, broadband etc)
  • assisting with providing or creating content for the company website

backend & development functions

oversee and manage the company’s entire it infrastructure with the necessary planning, design and systems rollout of hardware and software, plus ongoing systems management tasks commensurate with a workforce of circa 55-60 users. duties to include;

  • configuring and maintaining server infrastructure based on largely windows server os
  • manage specific needs and requirements where applicable using linux or FreeBSD platforms
  • plan and develop upgrades to server backend systems to maintain currency with minimal to no user interruption or business impact

have extensive knowledge of all manner of it and technology platforms such as;

  • raid systems
  • storage arrays
  • iSCSI links
  • vpn systems
  • virtualisation technologies
  • backup systems
  • all networking and routing methodologies
  • infrastructure software and hardware installation and upgrades
  • backend administration and management of routing requirements, networking segments, port forwarding, WiFi AP’s etc

skills:

  • qualification in systems administration, server systems, networking or some other accreditation (e.g. Microsoft certified)
